This is a guide that will inform you about everything that was changed in the redesign. You can also read about the brief history of redesign.
Redesign is not just a fancy new look. It's a completely new coding, therefore you can't just change a skin to make it look like an old Ogame. Redesign was brought to Ogame to attract new players, extend the life of Ogame and fix the fundamental security bugs in the old design. The RD allows new technologies, ships, and changes to Ogame that were prevented by the old code and to have an up to date code and one that can actually receive updates without breaking down each time. It is a modern, straight forward code now, not the old patchwork.
Redesign also brought some of the player's ideas to life. See which here: Game: Suggestions implemented in the redesign
Note: All old converters don't work properly with the redesign. Useful Ogame Tools and Recommended Combat Report Converters threads have been updated. Please see which converters don't have bugs and use those.
Note: There are currently still some bugs in the redesign that are being worked on. Please visit Bugs and Complaints and check if the bug was already reported before opening a new thread.
Note: Please see the list of the important current game details here (does not include wider explanations - you can find that in other Guides and FAQs): Current game details

01.06.2010 - All old unis were updated to the redesign.
October 2010 - All old unis get the redesign features.
2. Design
As the name "Redesign" suggests, the first and most noticable change is in the game design itself. Even with all the changes, the way a game is played didn't change much.
Changes:
3. Source code
In the redesign, the source code and programming is reviewed and changed according to Ajax. However, some basic coding is still the same as in the old design. The new coding makes it easier to fix the bugs. It allso allows more extentions to be inserted on the easier way. Old bugs were indeed fixed, but there's now new ones which will require time and effort to get fixed.
4. New features
4.1. New storage properties
New storage capacities:
To balance the cost vs capacity, storages have been changed a bit. See a chart for details:
New costs for storages are:
level 1 metal storage = 1k metal
level 1 crystal storage = 1k metal and 500 crystal
level 1 deut storage = 1k metal and 1k crystal
The costs double with every level.
4.2. Astrophysics
Astroyphysics is a technology that is based on Expedition technology. It allows you to send expeditions, but it also got a very important role in the redesign. It now enables you to have unlimited number of colonies. The only limit is it's cost.
This chart will tell you how many planets you can have, planet slots you can colonize and expeditions you can send at a time depending on the level of Astrophysics technology. It also tell you the cost of each level (same table can be found in the colonisation guide).
Colony positions: With the redesign, you're no longer capable of colonizing all 15 slots from scratch. You need to research astro tech which unlocks the edge slots of every system. You can find that data in last column of the above chart.
Colony size: Minimum and maximum planet sizes have also changed with the redesign. New sizes are around 80 - 250 fields. It is now easier to find a planet with 200 or more fields if colonizing appropriate slots. Biggest planets can be found on slots 7, 8 and 9. You can also get a 200+ planet on slots 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12.
Colony ships: Any resources loaded on the colony ship will be left on the new colony when colonising.
Planet temperatures: Slots closer to position 1 will still give a higher temperature, but lowe deuterium production (vice versa for positions closer to slot 15), however, the temperature on positions 7-9 is now similar to the temperature on positions 4-6 in old design. Minimum temperature is -40°.
Value range for maximum temperature per slot
A chart with temperature/deut production/size values (same chart can be found in the colonisation guide).
Expeditions: The value of the expedition ship, which is important for determining the amount of resources or ships you can capture does no longer depend on the structural integrity. Havier ships still use the formula "structural integrity/1000", however, most lighter ships are now 4-11 times better than before. Now you only need about one quarter of the fleet from before to get the same results, resulting in lower costs and risks.

4.4. Tutorial
Tutorial is a special addition to Ogame. It helps new players to learn the basics of Ogame and gives you nice awards for completing the tasks. You can see the tutorial by clicking the question mark in the right top corner of the menu in overview. Follow it's instructions to win the awards.
Note: The tutorial is still a bit bugged at the moment. Please see this thread for instructions: Ingame General Redesign tutorial bugs collection thread

2. Design
As the name "Redesign" suggests, the first and most noticable change is in the game design itself. Even with all the changes, the way a game is played didn't change much.
Changes:
- In every menu you can now see a bar with fleet movements. It shows the number of your own missions, friendly and hostile missions heading to your planet. By clicking on the fleet bar, the entire fleet details will display.
- The building menu is now divided to "resources" and "facilities". In the category "resources" are all buildings that are connecting to resources. You can also build solar satelites from there. Under "facilities" you can find all other buildings.
- The "technology" is no longer diretly linked in the menu, but is now located in the description of every ship, defense, building or research. There's an additional techtree which tells you what specifically you need to be able to build the desired item.
- Drop-down menu was removed and replaced by the pictures on the right side. Clicking on them changes the location to any other planet/moon.
- Planet's surface image depends on the planet's temperature. There're more series of pictures: desert, jungle or ice pictures. When you build a mine, it appears on the picture.
- Requirements for buildings and more details are only avaliable by clicking on the mine icon. Starting a construction does not require opening a detailed view though - you may just click the green arrow to start the building.
- If the requirenments to start a building are not met, the building is crossed over with lighter lines. The construction button in detailed view is greyed out.
- The menu on the left side was shortened and arrangament of buttons was changed.

5. FAQs
Question: Is there anywhere I can still play the old styled Ogame?
Answer: Yes, but only on German server. Uni20 on ogame.de will never get a redesign. Note that it's a special universe. Here's it's features:
- 30% of destroyed defence goes to DF
- no ACS, no moons, no noob protection, no deathstars, no rapid fire and no Battlecruisers
- bashing is allowed
Remember that as it's a German universe, everything is in German language and you will have to communicate in German.
Here's a thread about it: many .org players to uni20.de?
Question: Are there any skins avaliable for the redesign?
Answer: Yes, there's some skins avaliable, however, they are not standard skins and don't work the same way as old design skins. They're legal, but no supported by the GF, so there is no bug support for them. For details follow the links:
-> Other First Redesign Skin released
-> Dark New Ogame Skin SpaceProjectMGD
New skins will be posted in this section: Fan Art - Skins
Most players are looking forward to a skin that would look like an old Ogame. Good news is that it exists, but it's not yet translated to English. Their site (and screenshots) can be found here: spectr.co.ua/?p=631
