So, after spending a little time looking around, here is some feedback on the new Inbox. Sorry for the length of the post, I know I have a tendency to write a little too much. Also, I mention a few things which are probably already planned, just not yet implemented, but just in case I decided to write about it anyway.
First, I'd like to say that i really like the new look and feel of the Inbox. It's less austere and a lot more in tune with the rest of the game. Also love the fact that most of the short messages can be read immediately without having to open them in a pop up.
The different categories are nice, I do have one question so, will they be for everyone or just players with the Commander ?
If just for the Commander I recommend adding an option to disable the Economy messages, otherwise people without the Categories will get insane having to browse through such an amount of messages.
Another small thing, which is probably planned but not yet implemented concerns the planets coordinates in the messages. Currently we have both the planet name and coordinates in the messages, but on the new version there is just the coordinates.
It's a small thing but it does help a lot for the movement of fleet and other things. It would probably be nice as well in the Economy tab messages.
Another thing which I'm guessing is planned. Currently, when we open the Inbox, it doesn't automatically go to the category in which there is a new message (see screenshot). Given that it's a behavior implemented in the current Inbox when you have the Commander, I think people will probably expect the same behavior here.
Also probably planned but at this time there is no way to differentiate read and unread messages. An easy way to fix this would be to use different colors for messages borders. See screenshot for an example.
One last small thing regarding the new messages icons. Both buttons display the same text “unread messages” (see screenshot). It could be nice to change the second one to something else, like “unread conversations”. It would help differentiate them.
Finally, I love the fact that we can have several messages open, that a really nice improvement. There is just one thing bothering me, in the pop up if you change message it also open in a new pop up. I have to admit I was expecting to change message in the same pop up in that situation.
Not sure if it's possible to have two different behavior. Opening in a new pop up when you click for more details in the Inbox, and changing message in the current pop up when you browse messages from the pop up (using the numbers in the red square in the screenshot).
