      Dear users,

      Today the Origin server will be updated to 5.7.9.


      [Feature] Recyclers will change the drive they use.

      At the moment they always use Combustion drive.
      Once Impulse drive level 17 has been researched, recyclers will use this one.
      Once Hyperspace drive level 15 has been researched, recyclers will use this one.

    • I have to agree with brot on this, at least a little. For a 20 minute boost, another 100k deut seems too much. Though I assume that the deut cost doesn't change during the drive change, which would make this just mechanical and not really up for discussion.

      Overall I like the idea, and will have to push impulse 17 up in my plans.

      With Impulse 17: Goes up to ca. 115.000 Deuterium for the same speed


      With Hyper 15: Goes up to ca. 139.000 Deuterium for the same speed

    • Are these examples from test cases, or calculated manually?
      If manually, are you sure the numbers are correct?

      Judging by them, the base speed for rec's will rise from 2000 to ~5930 (unless I'm mistaken). And with 15th hyper, they will fly about as fast as LF's with ~17th reactive.

      The base speed is changed as well ;-)

      Those values are calculated and taken from a test server.


      As benneb already mentioned, you can test it on the Origin server.

    • For those who wonder about the base speed change, here are the values I came up with after doing some speed comparisons with other ships at the same distance.

      Recycler speed when at impulse 17: 17595
      Base speed: 5175

      Recycler speed when at hyperdrive 15: 32625
      Base speed: 7250

      I'm fairly certain these are correct, as that's what lines up using the formulas, however these base speeds aren't exactly standard if you ask me, especially the impulse one, so I'm not completely sure.

      It's correct that the base speed changes with the drive :)

      For impulse 17 the speed is 17.600

      For hyperdrive 15 the speed is 33000

      Now you are able to calculate the correct base speed ;-)


      One hint: The recycler flight time for hyperdrive 15 is not 100% correct, i recalculated them. Will be updated the next hours.
