I'm trying to find how to upgrade an item but I really don't see any change / possibility to do so...

Previously if you activated a 10% deut booster for example, then the silver and gold deut boosters would dissappear and be unavailable until the 10% booster had run out. Now you can activate the silver one to replace the currently running bronze booster.

Replace?? What happens to the remaining time of the previous item? Disappear?

yes, you get a warning pop-up saying that the time left on the previous booster will be lost.
