After it had been mentioned a few times in the community meeting by WeTeHa, the OGame Origin project has now been officially announced. Sadly that newspost did not contain a lot of new information about the purpose and the concept of this project. This is why we want to summarize everything that is worth knowing about OGame Origin and especially how it affects the players.
The Origin project has its origins in the idea of an international suggestion board, which has been around for quite a while. Since every community has their own area where their players can post ideas and suggestions about improving the game, this quickly led to quite a chaotic situation. A lot of ideas were posted in several communities, repeating themselves over and over, but often still evaluated and treated differently and furthermore forwarded to the Gameforge AG on different channels. To establish some order and enable the developers to distinguish the important and useful ideas, there have already been several approaches to put in place an international board where all the teams can share and complement the ideas from their communities.
After similar attempts have failed in the past due to conceptual mistakes and a lack of contribution by the communities, OGame Origin now presents itself as the consistent further development of this idea. The project is also directed by the community manager WeTeHa (supported by Francolino) who, after some restructuring at the Gameforge AG, can now concentrate 100% on OGame, which means that a failure of the project is a lot less likely this time. Furthermore the leadership of the community manager also means a more direct connection to the Gameforge AG. From now on he does not have to search all the community boards for information and ideas but can take the collected suggestions from OGame Origin and present them to the project management right away to speed up the games development.
In addition to the suggestions from the international communities, Origin also functions as a melting pot for several other aspects where the communities can cooperate and support each other. The same basic principle is for example now also applied to the bugs in the game and boards. So far those have been collected and forwarded in each community individually, now they can be collected in the Origin project. That way team members from all communities can see right away whether a bug is already known to the Gameforge AG and what the current status is.
Furthermore Origin provides a home for all the tool programmers that want to support each other and coordinate their projects with the Gameforge AG. Origin also is the place to work on an international valid list of approved tools which are therefore allowed in all communities. So far this was a responsibility of the respective admins which is why a lot of tools had to be tested in each community separately and where often also judged differently. This lead to a big uncertainty for the players because a tool that was for example approved in the English OGame version could possibly lead to ban in the German one.
Another main feature of OGame Origins is the development of tutorials and FAQ. Similar to the OGameUniverse-Tutorial in the German community each of the communities has its own guides for inexperienced and curious players. With the help of this new platform those are supposed to be synchronised and in the ideal case form a new tutorial which can help the players of all language versions. Further information about the game (for example the current game details) and other features that can be combined internationally (for example skins) now have Origin as their new home.
That sounds nice and all, but what does that mean for the normal player? After registering to the new board you can view the results of this exchange of information, for example in the form of lists of approved tools, skin collections or finished tutorials. These are of course not only for your personal use but can also be distributed to your alliance and other players. Furthermore you are able to talk to other interested users about those topics, although (because of the great number of different nationalities) only in English.
This however is not the main purpose of OGame Origin. Instead the results of this international cooperation are translated into all the languages and made available to the communities so those can hand them down to their users. For this reason the Origin community consists mostly of team members which collect, exchange and distribute the information. This means it is not necessary to register for the Origin board in order to receive the information, it will sooner or later also be made available at your local board. However Origin helps to make this information more up to date, more complete and of the same quality in all communities.
So is it even worth registering with the new board? Primarily OGame Origin is not meant for the average player, because these can also access the information in their own community. The project is however based on the involvement of people with the necessary knowledge, experience and motivation. So if you are interested in becoming a part of OGame Origin and meet the requirements, feel free to apply right away (see Applications). The same applies of course for the programmers of widespread tools and the developers of skins which would like to swap ideas with like-minded people.
