I think I read about this some time ago, but can't find it now. Sorry if it's a dupe.
Right now older universes are growing a lot, there are huge accounts. And the game is dying in some sense at those stages, and we usually survive for some extra months thanks to some mergers.
But what if the “final destiny” of accounts was not of get huge and play forever. We could make an incentive so that people will eventually “forget” about older accounts and understand that the fun is in the beginnings (the first 1-3 years of universes).
The mergers could gradually reduce the speed of universes, so that everyone gets an incentive to restart again from the beginning. This is not a short term idea, but a long term direction the game could get.
That means that once one gets to 300M points or more in a fast universe, he can keep playing that account, but with time it will end up in a universe of x1 speed (or may be x2 at much, but preferably x1) that way one would end up with big accounts, all together, and battles could happen in those universes, but there will be much less amount of them. And many people will eventually leave. The idea is like a retirement, that incentives people to start again and just keep those accounts saved in the Olympus.
Plus, there could be leagues (even international leagues) where one could duplicate his account to play for a few months there. Without the possibility of losing the original account. It could be like a planned retirement once accounts grow too big. Of course, they could keep growing, but at x1 rate (and fleet speed) that reduces considerably the growth speed.
By the way, many communities need a merger
